Mumbai: Approach Entertainment, the award-winning Celebrity & Talent Management, Films Productions, Advertising & Corporate Films Productions, Films Marketing, Events and Entertainment Marketing company, has announced the signing of acclaimed Indian classical singer Mousumi Chakraborty, marking a significant addition to its growing artist and talent management portfolio.
Under the association, Approach Entertainment will spearhead Mousumi Chakraborty’s artist management, live concerts, music projects, collaborations, brand associations, appearances and entertainment opportunities, while Approach Communications, the group’s award-winning PR, Digital & Integrated Communications agency, will drive her media positioning, publicity, digital strategy and integrated communications. The partnership will focus on strengthening her presence across India while exploring international opportunities for her music.
Deeply rooted in the traditions of Indian classical music, Mousumi brings together rigorous training, an illustrious musical lineage and years of performance experience. Born into a musical family, she began learning classical vocal music at a very young age from her father, Shri P. C. Chakraborty, a disciple of renowned sarangi maestro Late Ustad Sagiruddin Khan of the Delhi Gharana. She subsequently received direct training from Ustad Sagiruddin Khan until his demise in 1993.
Her musical journey was further shaped under Late maestro Pandit Samaresh Chawdhury, a distinguished vocalist and disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar, representing the Rampur-Senia Gharana. Mousumi remained under his regular tutelage until 2018. She also received advanced talim from renowned Samvadhini maestro Late Pandit Manohar Chimote in Mumbai and eminent sarod player Pandit Joydeep Ghosh of the Shahjahanpur Gharana.
Mousumi’s achievements underline her standing as an accomplished classical singer. A First Class Honours Graduate in Music from Acharya Vinoba Bhave University, she was awarded a National Scholarship by the Government of India’s Human Resource Department from 1998 to 2000. She also won First Prize at the national-level All India Radio Music Competition in Khayal in 1998.
She is a graded artiste and regular performer with All India Radio Mumbai and has been honoured with the prestigious Navras Award by Navras Records Mumbai, as well as recognition from Sanskar Bharati. Over the years, she has performed at prominent music concerts and platforms across the country, including the Concert of Swar-Sadhana Samiti, an organisation co-founded by late legendary tabla maestro Dr. Aban E. Mistry, in Mumbai; Salt Lake City Music Conference, Kolkata; Navrang Music Concert, Kolkata; Sangeet Piyasi, Kolkata; Uttarpara Music Festival, Kolkata; concerts by Sangaat & Saptak, Mumbai; and the Concert of Surashree, Gujarat, besides other classical music forums.
Adding another significant dimension to her association with the classical music fraternity, Mousumi Chakraborty was also invited by Dr. Aban E. Mistry to serve as a judge for a classical vocal competition in the senior category held in Mumbai.
